What a brilliant site with outstanding tour guides to guide through the life and times of Ellis Evans, Hedd Wyn, the Welsh poet. His life, times, and early death on the first day of fighting in Passiondale all narrated on the tour. Beautiful walks sand excellent restoration of the site maker it a unique experience.

Arrived on Sunday October 12th at 11am only to find the place closed up despite the Google opening hours saying it's open. Several other people also arrived and left while we were here.
The last that lives in the bungalow between the reception and farm also came down to see why reception was closed and had no answer.

Quite disappointed to travel so far and find it closed, to the caretaker, please adjust your Google hours if you are closing for some reason.

Moving story of Hedd Wen in his family home, unchanged since his time. And the famous black chair is incredible. Fantastic staff - enthusiastic and knowledgeable, they make the history come alive - diolch yn fawr!

An interesting place to visit, with beautiful views across to Snowdonia. There's a small cafe and friendly and helpful staff. A staff member gives a talk in the cottage and there's a film about it to watch in the cafe area. The black chair was beautiful.
No dogs allowed. We walked our aling the lane before and after the visit, which takes about 2 hrs.
You must book your tour in advance.

What a stunning place moved me beyond words.
Even if you have no interest in welsh poetry this place is a homage to all the men who were lost in WW1.
Hedd Wyn was only one of them he now represents all the talent and men that were taken by this savage war, its such a sad tale.
We must keep places like this alive.
The National park have done an AMAZING JOB preserving and very sensitively done too.
The cafe and information center are fantastic and not overbearing, sitting beautifully in the landscape .

Ellis Humphrey Evans also known as his bardic name " Hedd Wyn "
Yr Ysgwrn was his childhood home and where he grew up, writing his poetry and competing in the welsh eisteddfod. He won the Bardic Chair in the National Eisteddfod in Birkenhead , known as the " Eisteddfod of the Black Chair - Y gadair ddu "
At the 1917 National Eisteddfod the Archdruid called out the nom-de-plume of the winning bard three times, but nobody stepped forward. Then he solemnly announced that the poet had been killed in battle six weeks earlier.
Wel worth the visit , soak up the atmosphere and see life as it used to be. ( lovely cafe there too )
