Have visited in the past but it isn't as good as it was - or as big. A lot of the old stalls no longer there. Lacked a Christmas atmosphere. There wasn't even any music!
Visited around 11 o'clock on a Thursday morning. Not too busy. Steady but could get to the stalls. Mainly stalls selling cooked street food or gin etc. One or two good stalls eg the cheese stall, a stall with stunning glass Christmas tree ornaments (pricey though) but some that looked like the goods were imported from China/India and then the prices super inflated. Only bought a vegan chocolate Advent calendar.
Don't take the kids. There is nothing for them.
Paid £12.50 to park for four hours.
I'm afraid it'll be a while before we visit again.

Lovely market just super super busy. Love seeing local businesses' products in a Christmas environment. Seems well organised and stocked. Expected it to be a little quieter on its last weekend, which is when we were there, but still very hectic and overwhelming at times. Has something for everyone and a lot of food and drink choices. Very close to the Shambles market too for a further peruse. Would recommend but can definitely be a little tricky if easily sensory overloaded, have mobility issues or travelling with kids or dogs.

Nice Christmas markets, nice lights as it got darker, some nice little stalls and food options. Not a huge market and not as big as expected hence the 4 stars. Also very very busy, but there were some nice stalls and with the other shops in York a nice day out.

York is an excellent city to visit. But avoid the Xmas market at the weekends, try to come mid week. It is just far too busy for it to be enjoyable.

Despite being very busy, I thought it was wonderful.
Lots of fabulous independent shops, quirky and unique gifts, something for everyone.
Steeped in history, a great day out.

What a wonderful time of year, magical with the lights. Great atmosphere, we attended later on which was great the food stalls where super busy but looked so delicious.
Highly recommend to visit, a great variety to look at, to grab a few Christmas presents. It’s well worth a visit!

Very busy in the evening, good choice of foods, mullled wine and Christmas gift ideas. Some helpful and some not so stall holders. Not cheap but does get you in the mood for Christmas 🎄🎅

Absolutely crowded on busy weekends, and you can understand why, there's soooo much to see, hear, taste, experience and just have a joyful time, it really brings back the magic of Christmas, the look on children's faces is priceless and a joy to see. This must be the best market. A tip. Don't arrive by car, finding a parking space in the car parks is nigh on impossible AND ruinously expensive, use the park & ride if coming by car, much easier. Buses are fast and very frequent AND they are smooth clean electric buses. Train station is a very short walk from the centre and trains are fast and very frequent. The world famous railway museum is FREE admission but for me I'd choose the street life museum as an absolute must see.
