Great day out despite the wet weather. Amazing to see where they filmed the BBC tv series Ghosts, and full of fun historic facts about the house. Even better was the Saxon Day they had on, with realistic Saxon food, clothes and, a live re-enactment of Saxon battles/fights. Would definitely recommend for a nice day out.

We did the Filming Tour and I would 100% recommend for Ghosts fans. Our guide was one of the managers at the Trust and she had been closely involved in the filming so had plenty of behind-the- scenes knowledge. The tour lasted 2h15 and was thoroughly entertaining and good value for money.
More hands-on than a National Trust house: we were invited to handle the books in the library, sit on the furniture and pick fruit from a 400-year-old mulberry tree.
After the tour we had access to the gardens for the rest of the day, with hardly anyone else around.

A lovely place. We booked a tour all about the series Ghosts, which was absolutely brilliant and our tour guide was very knowledgeable.

They are all volunteers and very passionate about the house and estate. The history is really interesting and the whole place is a good few hours of a lovely historic house plus beautiful gardens.

We would recommend a visit just for the house and grounds.

Excellent stop off for a wander if you are walking nearby. Plenty of paths run through and around the estate all with open access. We stopped for a coffee at the parked coffee station which also serves hot savoury rolls and cakes. Coffee is very good. Others have mentioned its use as a film location and the day we visited a team was on site assessing it for yet another film.
Good back story involving Bamber Gascoigne of Uni Challenge fame...well worth reading up on.

Wow!!!! We did the Filming tour with Caroline. She was absolutely incredible and made the day for us. The tour was a packed 2hours. The gift shop is great too so take your pocket money.
The house itself is gorgeous and so so interesting. We went as fans of Ghosts and it didn’t disappoint. Plenty of treasures to see and so many filming spots pointed out.
Couldn’t recommend it more to fans of the show or those looking for a fun day out.
(Don’t want to post loads of pics as it will spoil the fun!)

My husband and I visited West Horsley Place for a ‘Ghosts’ Tour.
Our party met at the on-site cafe where, after a brief wait, we were taken to ‘Button House’.
The excitement was palpable as we all (around 20 people) gathered at the front of the house.
Our guide for the 2hr tour of the house and garden was (the aptly named) Annabelle, who soon brought the essence of Button House and the cast of Ghosts to life!!
The bonus’s of this tour was that we were all allowed to take as many photos as we liked and touch the house contents, plus plenty of time to wander through each of the rooms.
There were lots of props on display, and each part of the house, both internally and externally, was explained to us all by the enthusiastic, funny Annabelle throughout the whole tour.
There’s also a lot of insight given on how the house was ‘dressed’ for set…which in itself was quite amazing.
After the tour, Alison & Mikes car was parked outside the house for all to sit in & take photos… the grounds and gardens were ours to roam in, and ‘Pat's tree stump’ was the focal point of many a photo!
At the end of the tour, everyone was free to walk in the extensive meadow or wander straight back for a coffee & sausage rolls at the on-site cafe, a purchase in the little gift shop, and then head off for the short stroll back to the ample car park.
All in all it’s a great day out if you are a fan of the BBC Ghosts, or if you’re interested in Tudor architecture.
The atmosphere is very relaxed and the friendly staff will chat and answer any questions you may have.
Book in advance if you can, as this is a very popular tour!
We would certainly recommend visiting West Horsley Place if you’re in the area!
