A gorgeous glen where the Tanar flows down from the hills of the Mounth, lovely walks through the ancient forest and out onto the high uplands with views over the local hills including the nearby munro Mt Keen

We were fortunate to be able to fish Glen Tanar Waterside and Bank beats. We had brilliant service from the estate office and also learnt about the trout lake nearby the estate office. We shall definitely be back to fish that loch! The Waterside south beat has the roadside hut, the Gin Palace, and there must have been many a tale told there. It has a 180° view of the pool, which at higher levels can be fished from a very well kept grass bank. The water height gauge is here. Waterside north beat has a hut too, a large shepherds hut, with lovely views of the pool. The fishing is from a shingle bank and wading is not hard.
The other beat, Bank & Barron, which is further upstream and is fished from the right hand bank (looking downstream). There is also a shepherds hut here too, a great place to rest, lunch and apres day socials 🍾🍻. Sadly, we didn't catch fish on either of our two days, but we shall be back. Thank you Glen Tanar estate 🎣👌👍.
PS Sadly the Queen died while we were on the beat 😥 memorable, but for the wrong reason. RIP Queen Elizabeth II 🇬🇧 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
