Attended the European Kempo championships here recently. It's a great venue, with great facilities and the centre was clean and well serviced. Just one little, little thing was it would have been great if the cafes were at full operation levels as it have a profitable spell for the centre. We had to go and get drinks and food so think they missed a trick. GREAT PLACE

Good temperature for swimming in the main pool, the second pool is warmer. Unfortunately the main pools floor has been raised to 1.1 metres. Which is too shallow for a comfortable session. But it’s H&S for persons of all ages who may not be able to swim.
Only once have I swum with the floor lowered to 1.80 meters, which was great. It must have been after a regional swim meet.
The changing and showering areas are good.

GL1 have emailed me to let me know that the pool floor raise/lower mechanism has been fixed.

There are two 25 metre pools here (1 competition where the floor can be lowered to about 1.80 and a more enclosed with no windows, warm-up pool) plus a kiddies pool.

Visited my school in June 2024. It was a good afternoon out for me, and the swim teaching was good. The children enjoyed it and the facilities on the whole were good. Like most large buildings, it needs a bit of work, but this is always the case for leisure complexes, especially when they are over 20 years old. Good position for locals and people visiting.

Today was my first experience with GL1. My daughter and I visited the pools, we were in both Barton and Tad Splash pools. Tad splash was definitely the warmer and water was max height of 90cm. In Barton pool the water was cooler but shallow(1m max). We had great time, staff were very good and time was more then plenty (2hrs session). Lockers were not working but this was the only downside from the facility. Definitely will recommend.

Really Sad to put this review as I loved this place and always promoted it. I forgot to take my child for her first swimming lesson as we had come from a long journey a night before. I phoned to ask if she could do a whole new one next week. Happy to pay extra to cover a day. I was told it's not allowed unless she was ill or something. If I had known about this I would have lied but I was being honest and was treated badly.

This gym is filthy and dangerous. 2 machines you press the buttons on the screen while running and they dont react, leaving you unable to slow the speed down. Been the same for months. I have arthritis making it extremely dangerous and frustrating. The disabled toilets have been closed for days, the 2nd changing room also closed, leaving disabled gym users with 2 toilets thay are co.pletely covered in faeces every day. There is the same bug infestation that was here last October almost a year ago. Little tiny bugs flying g everywhere. You only get 1 minute to pause the treadmill, the scanner to get back in the door then does not work so you habe to restart your workout. I dropped a weights bench on my finger, it took them half an hour to find a plaster, no first aid kit whatsoever in the gym, bearing in mind they allow children to use it. Rarely any toll to clean the machines either. Theu dont enforce rules, members of the gym speaking to people on the phone on loud speaker running other experience. Never a member of staff in the gym should there be an injury. The toilet cubicles are so small you have to rub up against their dirty toilet to get out. Rarely any soap to wash your hands. Itchy feet when using the dirty showers which the shower dies after 20 seconds meaning you have to keep pressing the button. Staff couldn't care less about any of it. Complained 11 mo ths ago and left for 4 months nor resolved any of the issues. Need reporting to health and safety at this point. Cesspit.

Took my little girl today.. and was absolutely shocked by how dirty the changing rooms are....
They absolutely stunk! Everything is so filthy.. how they are even open to the public being so dirty is beyond me.
Needs to be closed down and given a good clean.
Cafe shut so we couldnt get a drink anywhere..shocking.

Will not be going back.

GL1 Gym offers a lot of outdated rooms and equipment. the changing rooms smell awful and look just as old, and they still use old-school contracts. On top of that, they require a two-week notice just to cancel, which is seriously outdated β€” most gyms let you cancel instantly these days. It is quiet and cool inside, which is the one positive, but overall it’s not worth the price.
