My husband, adult daughter, and I stayed at the Eskdale for just one night, and we were genuinely impressed. From the moment we arrived, the staff offered warm, attentive service that made us feel welcome. We dined in the hotel restaurant for both dinner and breakfast and were delighted by the quality of both the food and the service. Even the haggis—something we’d been hesitant about—turned out to be surprisingly delicious. Clearly, preparation makes all the difference!||Our room was comfortable and more than adequate for our needs. The bed was cozy, though the pillows left a bit to be desired. The bathroom was compact but functional, with a generous window ledge that conveniently held all our toiletries. One quirky detail: the toilet paper holder was oddly placed across the sink from the toilet. Thank goodness my husband was around because it was out of my reach.||As is typical for many independent hotels in Scotland, the Eskdale doesn’t offer air conditioning, but they thoughtfully provided a fan that kept the room pleasantly cool overnight. We especially appreciated the six-port USB charging dock on the nightstand—a lifesaver for our many devices, given the limited number of outlets. A mirror positioned across from the bed with a nearby outlet made it easy to use my hair dryer while actually seeing what I was doing (a surprisingly rare luxury in UK hotels!). The complimentary coffee, teas, and snacks were a lovely touch.||Parking is available behind the building—just follow Rosevale Street to access the lot.||For a small hotel in a quiet town, the Eskdale exceeded our expectations. It’s a charming, well-run spot, and I’d happily recommend it to fellow travelers.

Decided on a couple of nights away, last minute. Chose this hotel as the area seemed nice and peaceful. Wasn't disappointed with our choice. Had an enjoyable stay here. We stayed in the Telford room which was lovely and spacious. The room was comfortable, and very clean. We slept really well. All staff we encountered couldn't do enough for us. We ate at the hotel 1 night, there was a good selection on the menu, and the food was really good, cooked well, we also had a cooked breakfast which was good. We would return to this hotel and would hope that it would be as good as this visit.

This has the vibe of an old railroad hotel circa 1880. But it has been nicely updated for modern conveniences. The restaurant and bar offer taste entree’s and libations. Be fore warned that it is a walk-up, but the staff are committed to customer satisfaction and will carry your bags to your room. While I did not interact with the ownership, the staff was always helpful. I would not recommend this accommodation for mobility impaired guest as steps are frequent and numerous. All in all it was a wonderful experience.

Eskdale Hotel is in the centre of Langholm, on the main through road & with nearby car parking.
We called in on a Sunday early evening when travelling through the area.
Pleased that the staff were welcoming & able to accommodate us for a meal despite our not having made a pre-booked reservation.
The dining room & bar are quite small.
But comfortable with ample space for several small groups of dinners, such as ourselves.
The food was excellent.
Starter & main from a reasonably varied menu comprising of locally sourced produce.
Service was pleasant, attentive but unobtrusive.
Food was provided promptly though we were not hurried in our selection or dining.
Very enjoyable visit.

We had a lovely stay at the Eskdale Hotel. First impressions were extremely friendly and helpful staff, who came outside to guide us to nearby parking. The room was OK, but a little dated and the shower didn't work properly. However, the location was lovely and we had an evening stroll along the river at the back of the hotel. We ate at the hotel and the food was lovely, very professionally served by the waiter, and breakfast was also great. All in all, we would definitely stay again, but the place could maybe do with a little updating.

Dinner with friends in the "Snug" which is perfect for a small' private dinner. The food was very good with a great range of choices. "Fish and chips" was excellent - big though! Pork, salmon and lamb chops were also very good indeed. All made even better by the staff looking after us. We always enjoy our meals here. Well worth a visit. There is also a larger dining room and I believe they serve food in the bar too.

We had our well behaved dog with us & he was made welcome & given treats. It was good & certainly recommend. Hope its not too long until we return. Good to see John & his team. Christine & George
