I was with my family on hols at a day out in York. I collect jewellery and watches and was looking for an 18ct gold bracelet. Everything was fine whilst I waited to be served, and then when they brought the bracelets for me to look at they closed all the doors inferring they thought I was going to grab and run. I politely asked them to open the doors and let me out, and I left. Not the sort of experience I had expected or wanted. What a world we live in! It’s a shame as 18ct bracelets are hard to find and I was pleased to have spotted one. A much better way of dealing with it would have been to explain to me first why they were doing it and it was nothing personal. Don’t just lock me in without my consent.

I am one for giving honest reviews and I have been fortunate enough not to have to give a bad one. This place however ..... I took a lovely 14ct gold ring , which was not very old and also harldy worn , in for a valuation with a view to a possible sale, only to be bid an absolute ridiculous price and told gold prices couldn't be met anywhere near at the moment. I also had a lovely watch , hardly worn also and only a year old. I was told the watch card should have been stamped but since checking up on this, this is untrue and that was the old method of registering a warranty. I was made to feel that both my watch and ring were almost worthless.
I went to a different place only up the road and was paid 350 pounds more for my ring than I was quoted at Christopher Brown ! Take my advice if you are selling any family valuables , do not go here.
A smile even seemed too much hard work too.

Note this is now a "Brown and Gold" branch. My friend wrecked a masonic ring of sentimental value. We only went in the shop while on a weekend break to York and are very glad we did. The staff (and the owner!) were very good and organised the estimate, then the repair and then sending the ring to us at the other end of the country. We are very happy with the craftsmanship. If every company and organisation could match these standards, life would be a dream!

So we took our grandaughter for her ears piercing today , the two ladies who assisted with this were so good with isabelle( 6yrs old and very nervous) I would highly recommend, they went above and beyond

Excellent service and my son wanted a bespoke engagement ring he chose the diamond and it was made and styled to his proposal venue the ring is absolutely stunning and high quality diamond that dances with all lighting the ring was too big this needed a specialist to alter and ordinarily would be a 2 week wait it was collected 4 days later this to me speaks volumes in after sales and personal handling anyone wanting help advise or looking for something specific this place goes above and beyond to help you get that extra special piece would also like to thank Emma the manager for making it all so special x
