A lot was carried out in this area which has left an area very suited to farmer's markets, live music and suchlike. However it is under utilised . We visited last weekend as Durham county council announced the first of hopefully a series of regular local markets. It was a nice if small start. There was a variety of stalls.
A street food stall, burger stall, jewellery stall, fruit and veg stall, milk shake and pancake stall, craft beer stall, cake stall and a couple of others that evade my memory at the moment. There were also two beautiful alpacas that were available for guest appearances for certain organised occasions I believe. Durham county council had two stalls I believe. One was a free plant and take stall and the other was an organised young person's theatre lessons stall. The market was lacking the sort of produce you might expect at a farmer's market but hopefully in time such stalls will gradually appear. I hope that it doesn't turn into the markets we've become used to selling cheap household goods and secondhand stuff for example. Let's hope it gets the support it deserves. Not sure it's the best time of year to start things off though.

Council has spent a fortune doing it up over the last 20 years. Not really a market location anymore.
Removed loads of parking bays for disabled bays. The problem with this. People with disabilities have to get out of their cars into a busy road. The disabled bays should have been 30 metres away on the other side of the market square. Where it is much easier to do so.

Plenty of car parks, very cheap. Always a pleasant atmosphere. Good weather attracts allot of customers. The town and a wonderful park is a short walk away. I take my 2 year old girl every week.

Used to be the best market for miles around but has gone downhill over the past 10 years, still well worth a visit on a Saturday morning as there is a good selection of traders. There is a food truck that does good grub and there is a video games stall where a good bargain can be had, a great place to have a wander around on a sunny Saturday morning. Grab a coffee and sit and people watch as there are some funny people get down there

Durham Council have gradually eroded the life out of Chester le Street in general.
No atmosphere now and I doubt it will ever return. Local business need the town to be attractive to shoppers. 5* FAIL

The market was not on today. In recent years this market has gone down hill drastically. The stalls seem to sell tatt eg chipped cups with no handles or half tins of paint. The council are in the process of making over and moving the market but until they do something re the quality of goods sold it will be no better and could end up closing permanently
