I would never recommend anyone rent from Chancellors if they can go with anyone else. Not responsive to emails, ignore serious problems when begged to fix them, did not update our rental contract with new tenants’ names despite being emailed night and day about it and then made our life a nightmare because of this when we tried to claim our deposits back when we left the property.

Got to the point we would speak to the landlord and ask him to lobby Chancellors, rather than the other way around. My experience as a tenant with this letting agency was one of the most politcally eye-opening experiences of my life regarding how tenants are treated in this country. It was awful for my mental health. Avoid.

After six weeks we were told we “don’t meet the requirements" for the property we applied for.

My partner and I applied for a property we found online. When emails went unanswered, I visited the branch and spoke with Senior Lettings Executive Jordan Gibbs. We completed all the paperwork; Mr. Gibbs said the landlord liked our application and began referencing checks.

Then—silence for a month and a half. Despite follow-ups, the only update was a brief email: “You don’t meet the requirements.” No explanation, no apology, and no prior mention that this property had specific income thresholds. We paused our search while waiting and lost valuable time.

Overall, the lack of transparency and communication was deeply unprofessional. Clear upfront disclosure and timely updates would have avoided this experience.

Awful experience throughout. None of our pre-tenancy conditions were met. House was filthy when we moved in despite them claiming a professional clean was done. Maintenance issues were always blamed on us despite them being the most clear cut cases of fair wear and tear. A tenant swap was refused with no reason against what the contract states, and chancellors tried to lie and gaslight us about what the contract meant even though lawyers were agreeing with our interpretation of the contract. We then discovered the house did not have the correct permissions to be a HMO, which chancellors lied about and tried to tell us wasn't an issue, despite the fact the council was threatening us with eviction. After having to threaten them with legal action due to them breaching the contract and failing to do adequate checks on the house's HMO status prior to renting to us, we have finally been allowed to end our tenancy. I am dreading the final check out and what ridiculous things they will likely try to charge us with.

They also arranged viewings but forgot to tell all 4 people plus myself that they had been cancelled. When we phoned up to ask where the person from chancellors was they lied and said everyone had been phoned, then called me rude and hung up when I said that no one had been called. We were all shocked at the womans response as everyone agreed I had not been rude and had simply stated facts.

I hope to never rent with them again.
