Lovely local store. They have a nice selection... little bit more than it looks like they'd have. Also, a few fresh things made on site (bread, sandwiches). Staff are always really friendly. If you're a drinker it's definitely worth a visit, too

Stopped off at this small convenience store to buy a few things. Products appear to be substantially marked up on supermarket prices. A packet of 12 biscuits cost me over £4 but I saw no price on the packet and only discovered the cost when I was already at the till.
After I had paid (by debit card as I wanted a contactless transaction) I realised I have forgotten something. When I went to pay for the forgotten item (£0.99) I was told I HAD to pay by cash as I hadn’t spent over £5 - but in fact a minute earlier I had just spent nearly £20! I queried this but the girl serving insisted I pay cash.
I won’t be using this overpriced store with customer unfriendly service again.

I went in to the above shop. People were standing at the back of the shop drinking alcohol. From the middle of the group a voice popped up said what are you looking foe. I said Easter Eggs. He said behind me. Which they were. I selected one. I made my towards the counter/till. I paused, and thought to myself. Do I need anything else. One of staff wanted me to pay. I explained what I was doing. I then asked if thinking was allowed. The staff member agreed that thinking was allowed. I decided that I did not need anything else. I went to the till to pay for my item. Only to be told that he was closed and I should go to the next till. In a nutshell over priced, little choice, unpleasant staff.

Since this place opened it's been a great place to pop in.. great selection of booze and deli food, a lot of it local... Always had friendly service.
I can't understand other reviews saying it's overpriced.. it's only a little more expensive than a supermarket but has a much better selection!

In hindsight I wish I had mentioned my disappointment at the time.

I went into market square this morning and accidentally knocked over a bottle of ale which was stacked on the edge of a display crate.

When paying for my items I said I would pay for the broken bottle .... To be told sheepishly "I've already added it to your bill."...... !!

I wish I had retracted my offer to pay for it now, it was completely unethical to just add it to my bill with out asking me or even telling me that they wanted to pay for the breakage.

Also, as I know from retail guidelines that if a retailer insist you pay for a breakage; profit should not be made on the item and only the 'sell in' price needs to be covered.

I'm angry with myself now for not speaking up, it has left me quite annoyed.. and very probably no longer a frequent shopper to Market Square.
