BookCycle – A Hidden Gem and a True Treasure!

Sebastian was the volunteer at Book Cycle Exeter today and was lovely to meet him!

I absolutely love BookCycle. It's not just a bookshop – it's a beautiful little haven for book lovers and a charity that genuinely makes a difference. The idea that you can choose how much to donate per book (usually up to 3 per visit) is incredible – it makes books accessible to everyone, while supporting a great cause.

Every time I visit, I walk out with something unexpected – not just a new story to read, but a feeling that I've contributed to something bigger. The range of books is always amazing, and the atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and unpretentious. It feels like you're part of a community that values reading, sharing, and sustainability.

The volunteers are friendly and clearly passionate about what they do. Whether you're a student, a parent, or just someone who loves getting lost in a good book, BookCycle has something for you. I've discovered some of my favorite reads here, and I always look forward to going back.

Honestly, I can’t recommend BookCycle enough. It’s proof that small, local charities can have a huge impact – both on the planet and on the people who walk through their doors. 💚📚

So I’m back in the city four the first time in seven years. I’m a huge book worm and reviewer and love to support independent book sellers where ever I tend to find myself on my travels.

I came ere with a friend and loved the place. You get to decide the price you pay and you can purchase up to three books a day.

My friend picked up two, on on my recommendation and i picked up just the one.

Staff were amazing, very welcoming, chatty and friendly. An amazing amount of books well organised.

I also purchased a huge pine cone as I love the meaning that a pine come represents of rebirth and enlightenment.

I will come here again when next in the city.

This is such an amazing book shop! It's one of my favourite places to visit in Exeter (and the only donation-based book shop I've ever seen)! It's definitely worth a visit, even if you're not after a new book to read.

The place took me to a previous century without any overwhelming smell of old books. Max 3 books per person and only accept cash.
Good collection and you could spend hours there.
The elderly lady who was at that time, running the shop, not overly obtrusive as other people say.

came in recently, lovely little shop - very charming and a sweet reading nook upstairs surrounded by a wide array of all sorts of books ! 📚
i paid what i thought was a very fair price for 3 books after having looked on ebay and world of books for a guide price in their condition (2 very old classics and one non fiction) and got a rather disappointed reaction from a male staff member as he reluctantly processed my transaction. apart from that , very lovely and would recommend. i feel there should be some kind of guide for how much people should donate to avoid any confusion though .

I loved the bookstore since the moment I entered the door. There is a feeling of being in another world … and so happy that I found the book I was looking for ages in a bookstore
Thanks
